Speedlight Softbox

I have just purchase a couple of speedlight softboxes from Amazon (£14) to expand my lighting techniques. This unlike a brollies allows me to get the light nice and close for that soft light & contain all the light within the softbox.

I decided I would test with a single speedlight on the left around cheek hight with a reflector fill to the left (I will try and add a lighting diagram shortly.)

Camera Settings as follows:

Canon 7D

Shutter: 1/200

Aperture: f3.2 or 5.6

ISO: 200

Lens: 35mm EF f/2

Single Flash Shots

Its truly amazing the kind of shot you can get with just a single flash, These two particular shots are taken with an off camera flash to the right of camera.

 

The flash is pointing towards a silver brolly and round 1/2 power.  Both shots are using a technique which I 1st expose for the background with around 2stop below normal exposure (This with out flash renders the subject in darkness). I then use the flash to light the subject.
